Application Form & Process

We offer an online application process that allows you to create an account and then work your way through the requirements, saving information as you go.

Click here to begin the online application for all grades, 5-12. The application process includes:

1. Two Teacher Recommendations
2. Completed Application form
3. Completed Student Response form
4. Completed Parent Response form
5. Completed Release of Transcripts form
6. A student visit and interview
7. $50 processing fee

Please note: current Hyla 8th graders do not need to re-apply and will instead re-enroll in January of 2026.

Selection Process

Middle School: Prospective students and their parents often ask what we look for in students. Simply stated, we look for students whose growth we can foster, and who will—in turn—enrich and believe in our school community and its efforts. We seek to match a student’s ability and needs with the goals and resources of our school. We actively seek a diverse student body and welcome a range of capabilities, interests, and personalities.

Upper School: This guiding framework tells you about the students we welcome and the work they will do together, with faculty, with the on-site College Counselor & Academic Dean, and with local and global communities. This framework tells you about Hyla’s culture of participation, our emphasis on experience, and the intellectual habits and practices that we develop and encourage in Hyla upper school students.

Our admissions process is designed to identify students who are the best match for our school and who will thrive in our academic environment. We take a holistic approach, carefully considering every part of the applicant’s file and campus visit. This includes the student’s application, teacher recommendations, transcripts, feedback from the student visit, and the student's writing sample. The admissions committee works collaboratively to make thoughtful and informed decisions.
