Who Is a Hyla Student?

Hyla attracts bright, thoughtful, and engaged students who want more from their education—more connection, more purpose, and more challenge. Our students are artists and athletes, musicians and makers, deep thinkers and big-hearted doers who all share a spark of curiosity, compassion, and a genuine desire to learn and grow.

  • They ask big questions and pursue meaningful answers.
  • They build strong relationships with their teachers and peers.
  • They contribute to their communities with intention and care.

At Hyla, students are known, inspired, and stretched. They discover who they are, and who they’re becoming, in a place where learning feels personal and friendships last for life.

Why Hyla?

Through our engaging, interdisciplinary curriculum we foster critical thinking, well-being, and integrity—helping students grow into confident, self-reliant problem-solvers.

Megan Kennedy
Director, UW Resilience Lab

This 75-minute session offers a valuable opportunity for parents to learn and practice evidence-based strategies for building resilience, managing stress, and enhancing overall well-being through cognitive, mindful, and compassionate approaches. Participants will learn the connection between thoughts, feelings, and behaviors and how to identify and modify unhelpful thought patterns, be introduced to the concept of present-moment awareness without judgment, and explore practices to cultivate kindness, self-compassion, and empathy towards oneself and others. The session emphasizes interactivity and will allow participants to share their experiences, ask questions, and learn from each other to build community and deepen understanding.
